WAR ROOM DEVOTIONAL & BIBLE VERSES
I’ve been given Armor
We think we can take care of it all. We see an obstacle in our path and we hunker down and come up with a strategy. How are we going to get through this? What can we do to buy some more time? For some reason, we can’t seem to get used to the idea that we are not capable of fixing things ourselves. We cannot beat our enemies without the help & blessings from the Lord. He has given us a full suit of armor to go into battle with. HE, (not you or I) has provided a way for us to make it through the hard stuff.
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God.
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT
I am loved
As a mother, I can’t imagine sacrificing my child to save someone else. Especially someone who I don’t even know! I can’t even imagine watching my child go through undeserved suffering and not intervene. God did. Yes, He knew that in the end, everything would be ok, but that doesn’t mean it was any easier to watch His child go through it. God did that for you. He did it because He LOVES you so very much. He made you a priority and He went to great lengths to save you. You can rest in the fact that God truly wants the best for you. He Loves you with all of His heart!
“For this is how God love the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NLT
I am chosen
I am sure you know people who ALWAYS seem to win contests? Or what about the mom’s at the park who sit there every week talking and giggling together? When you were in school, there were the kids who sat at the lunch table that never seemed to have room for you. In all walks of life we come across people who seem to be chosen, which of course, makes us feel left out. It’s painful here on earth, but we must always remember that if we look at the bigger picture, it doesn’t matter. We are chosen by God and that is worth much more than being chosen by people down here.
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of Go, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NLT
I am forgiven
Sometimes we just need to hear it. Stop feeling bad for yourself. Stop punishing yourself for the mistakes you have made. We are supposed to take Holy Communion in church periodically, in order to be REMINDED of why God sacrificed Himself for us. We need to make it a point to REMEMBER this sacrifice constantly. We ARE forgiven by the only person who matters. It’s insulting to Him and His efforts for us to NOT forgive ourselves or others. Remind yourself. YOU ARE FORGIVEN BY THE ULTIMATE JUDGE.
And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Matthew 26:27-28 NLT
The Holy Spirit pleads for me
Let these verses bring you comfort. How many times have you stood before God and not known HOW to say what you wanted to say? As humans, we can’t always find the right words to say to others OR to God. Lucky for us, Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit is here to help us with that. We can’t allow ourselves to shy away from thing just because we don’t know what to say. That is when we need to look to the Holy Spirit for help. Ask in prayer for the help and then be open to hear the answer.
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:26-27 NLT
The Lord is my help
Just like the Holy Spirit speaks for us when we cannot, God Himself will help us in what we as humans are incapable of doing. That means that when you have large obstacles in your path, whether good or bad, you need to approach them knowing that it isn’t all up to you to work out. God is the force behind the plans. You are just the vessel He is going to use to accomplish them.
God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1 HCSB
God is working it out
In the midst of the dry seasons in our life, we can feel like God has left us or like we are just sitting down here piddling around wasting time. The longer it goes on, the harder it becomes to convince ourselves that we aren’t wasting time. Come back to Romans 8:28 when you need to be reassured. God is ALWAYS working. He ALWAYS has a plan and a purpose for what you are experiencing. His plans and purposes are MUCH better than ours because He knows so much more than we do. Try and just rest in these words and be patient.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 NLT
Praise silences the enemy
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Kill them with Kindness?” It’s very difficult to do when all you want to do is argue with someone/thing, but it works EVERY time. There is no fighting against someone who doesn’t get all worked up. This works with the devil too. When you are feeling like screaming profanities at the enemy, try to scream scripture verses instead. Verse that Praise God for who He is and who He is in your life personally. Let the devil know that his ploys will not get to you because you have a God worth PRAISING, who you have complete faith and trust in.
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19 KJV
He who is in me is greater
It is in our nature to be competitive. We look at the neighbors and feel disappointed in what we have. We think that we are not good enough because we are not as educated, financially stable, popular, etc, as the people around us. This is an illusion created by your enemy. God is in us and that is 10000 times better than having any of these temporary comforts from the world.
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 5:10 NLT
The Lord will guide me
It is natural for us, especially those of us who are born leaders, to want to make a plan, figure it all out and cover all of our bases. This isn’t a bad thing. It is necessary to have some of those traits. The problem comes when we are not aligning those plans with the Lords. We want to have God directing our paths. We want to submit our leadership to God’s plans. When we start to stray off His path things will become more difficult and dicey. Rest in the fact that you, even as a leader, have a Supreme Leader to guide you!
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT
I trust in the Lord
Don’t allow yourself to worry when things seem difficult or even impossible. Reassure yourself with the reminder that you trust the Lord. Repeat the mantra, “I know the Lord has plans for me. I know this is part of His plan and if not, He will work it for good and get me back on track if I allow Him. I TRUST the decisions He’s made for me.”
“You are faithful, Lord, to strengthen and protect me from the evil one. I trust in Your faithfulness.” II Thessalonians 3:3
I cast myself to the Lord
Because God keeps us from stumbling too far. Because He has provided a way for me to be in Heaven with Him, even though we have done nothing to deserve it. We must say these words, “I give myself to you Lord. I recognize your power, and authority and I lay down my life at your feet and ask you to bring victory & glory on your behalf, through it.” Then and only then will we truly be living for God.
“Lord, You are able to keep me from stumbling. You will present me blameless in Your presence. It is upon this hope I cast myself and acknowledge Your authority, power, and majesty. To You be all the glory and honor. It is for these things- for Your glory and honor- that I ask Your mighty hand to bring about victory in my life.” Jude 24:25
