This week we are going to take a look at Genesis 2
Genesis 2:5 (NLT) says, “Neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the Lord had not yet sent rain to water the earth and there were no people to cultivate the soil.” It’s a funny mental picture. We all kind of just assume that things will grow or land will bear some type of flower, fruit, plant, even a weed. The thought of it NEVER having rained and the land completely barren shows that God didn’t just throw it all together, He made everything, bit by bit, with intention. It was planned out WAY ahead of time, that the land couldn’t be useful until certain things happened. It isn’t happenstance when vegetables grow in your garden. If nothing is planted there, then even rain can’t magically make something out of nothing. The land needs our labor in order to produce. It doesn’t need us, it needs our WORK. We need to plant the seed that God has provided for us and then maintain it. If we don’t, nothing is going to help it to grow. Think about this from another point of view. Yes, God has a plan for our lives but I think sometimes we are so focused on figuring out what the big plan is, that we ignore the little moments that are occurring while we impatiently wait. It’s in those moment when all of the foundational work is done. God is “placing” people, things, money, experiences, in front of you every day. Are you making the most of them? Are you learning anything from them? Better yet, does anyone know just a little bit more about Jesus because of you? Make a mental picture of your life as a giant field. Maybe the BIG PLAN is for the field to become a farm that you will use to support your family. Are you cultivating and taking care of the land right now? Or are you waiting for God to make things grow where you haven’t done any of the seemingly unimportant, grunt work? I hope your land isn’t barren like it was it Genesis 2:5.
I created this field with flowers using Derwent watercolor pencils.
