Creative Color Combinations Set #1
Everyday, we walk through a world full of vibrant color! There’s leaves turning bold shades of red and orange. Restaurant signs with bright lights causing the colors to glow. Colors are blended together everywhere we look. Despite this constant example for us, we sit down at our art table and find ourselves stumped as to which colors to use? Why do you think that is? Do you often find yourselves using the same color palette over and over because you can’t seem to find anything else that works?
Well sister, let me give you the good news. The days of using that same color palette are coming to an end for you! It’s all about to change!!
Color preference is a matter of personal style, that’s probably why you are so afraid to branch out from your go-to colors. I am going to rip the band-aid off for you. Each week we would take a look at a different color combination, that I will come up with (see, pressure’s off of you!). You will see not only how the colors look together, but also how you feel about them. Maybe they will inspire you! Maybe they will go on the “ugly-don’t-use-list.” Who knows? Either way, it will help you to think outside the box and get you ready to try new color schemes! Take a deep breathe, change is good.
During each, “lesson” we will not only explore different color combinations, but we will also take a look at the meaning behind each color, which will help us know how to use it! (Some will be soft, some bold, some upbeat, etc)
So are you ready to go from colorless to colorful? Say goodbye to the one-trick pony and let’s get started!
This week our color combination is yellow, orange and navy blue.
Let’s dig a little bit deeper into each of the colors!
Yellow– This color is bright and enthusiastic. Lighter tones can be comforting while brighter tones are a bit more intense. The color yellow will inspire feelings of happiness
Orange – This is a color of enthusiasm. This color can be fun and energic. Light orange can be cheerful and whimsical and rich oranges can be comforting. You want to use a color like this when you are feeling confident
Blue – This is a color of loyalty and honesty. It demonstrates integrity and is very calming and tranquil. It’s great for spirituality.
So now that we know what each color does alone, let’s look at them put together.
I LOVE this color combination! It goes great because it is full of confident happiness. The orange offsets the yellow because it takes a bright color and makes it more comforting. If we had used red it wouldn’t have worked as well because red is a stimulating color. But the navy blue was a perfect choice to mix with yellow and orange! What do you think? Can you see how happy and calm these colors work together?
So now it’s time to take that leap! Go ahead and dig out your pens, markers, paints, or whatever medium you want to use and give the yellow, orange & blue combination a try!
Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect!
Can you see how the navy blue looks classy when you mix it with the soft colors of the yellow and orange?
